Job summary

Change Mental Health is seeking a Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner to join our community-based services in Dumfries & Galloway. You will support people experiencing poor mental health or mental illness to build confidence, resilience and stronger connections within their community, delivering person-centred support.

You will work with individuals and groups, helping to set achievable goals, develop tailored plans and practical strategies to improve wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Experience facilitating groups, peer-support activities or community-based sessions.
  • Experience providing structured 1:1 support and contributing to plans.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build professional relationships.
  • Ability to manage your workload and work well in a team.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred and recovery-focused practice.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and safe decision-making.
  • SVQ Level 2 Social Services and Healthcare (Adults) or willingness to work towards.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate groups, peer-support activities or community sessions.
  • Provide structured 1:1 support and contribute to personal/outcome-focused plans.
  • Develop practical strategies to support mental health and wellbeing.

Job description

Change Mental Health is looking for a Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner to join our community-based services in Dumfries & Galloway.You’ll support people experiencing poor mental health or mental illness to build confidence, resilience and stronger connections within their community, providing practical, person-centred support focused on what matters to each individual.

About the role

You'll work directly with people through a mix of 1:1 support, group activities and community engagement, helping individuals identify achievable goals, develop personal or outcome-focused plans and build practical strategies to support their mental health and wellbeing.You’ll help create a welcoming and inclusive environment, encourage peer and community connections, and work with local organisations and services to make sure people can access the right support and opportunities.

Essential
  • Experience facilitating groups, peer-support activities or community-based sessions.
  • Experience providing structured 1:1 support and contributing to personal or outcome-focused plans.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred, strengths-based and recovery-focused practice.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and safe decision-making.
  • SVQ Level 2 Social Services and Healthcare (Adults) or willingness to work towards this if required.
  • SSSC registration, or willingness to register if required.
Desirable
  • Experience supporting people affected by mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, services and referral pathways.
  • Experience supporting people affected by trauma, social isolation or complex circumstances.
