Location: Wareham
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a Mental Health Support Worker to work in schools in Wareham, offering dedicated support to students dealing with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. The position offers a fulfilling opportunity to be part of a supportive team committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all students.

In this role, you will work closely with individual pupils or small groups, helping them engage with their learning and manage their emotions in a positive way. Your guidance and encouragement will play a key part in helping them develop resilience, build confidence, and feel safe and understood in the classroom.

To be a Mental Health Support Worker, your responsibilities will be:

  • Support students with mental health needs on a one-to-one or small group basis.
  • Help to create a safe and calm learning environment where students feel supported.
  • Implement behaviour strategies and coping techniques to assist with emotional regulation.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and communication skills.
  • Liaise with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to develop personalised support plans.
  • Provide regular feedback and updates on student progress.
  • Promote inclusion and positive attitudes among all pupils.
  • Act as a trusted adult and positive role model within the school setting.

Mental Health Support Worker Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in mental health, education, or child development are advantageous.
  • Previous experience as a Mental Health Support Worker or in a similar role within an educational or care setting is essential.
  • Understanding of SEMH needs and strategies to support young people effectively.
  • A compassionate and patient approach with a strong sense of empathy.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.
