Mental Health Support Worker - £25,325 - £27,378 per annum (Salaries vary depending on experience)

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, inclusive of bank holidays, occasional evenings & weekends.

Service: Transitional Support/Oxford.

What You'll Be Doing

The Transitional Support team is looking for an enthusiastic, caring, and motivated individual to join their team. The team provides care five days a week for clients in both staffed projects and houses out in the community, creating a safe and supportive environment while helping residents work towards more independent living. The position requires occasional evening and weekend work as per the shift rota.

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will support residents with serious mental illnesses, including adults with primary diagnoses of psychotic illnesses, often with coexisting conditions such as physical health issues, neurodiversity, substance use, and cognitive impairments.

Core Duties Include
  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and practical assistance with daily activities such as medication management, engaging in interests, accessing community facilities, employment, and teaching life skills like shopping, budgeting, cooking, and maintaining accommodation.
  • Foster a supportive environment that promotes independence.
  • Support and monitor clients' physical and mental health, liaising with health services as needed.
  • Support clients to attend appointments.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Assist the Service Manager in achieving monthly service goals.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed to keep everyone safe.
  • Use a trauma-informed approach based on the 6 principles: Safety, Trust, Choice, Collaboration, Empowerment, and Cultural Consideration.
  • Engage families, friends, and carers in the support process, providing them with relevant information.

Essential Criteria
  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development, including completing the Care Certificate
  • IT literacy, including MS Office
  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and listening
  • Ability to provide non-judgmental emotional and practical support
  • Genuine interest in mental health and well-being
