Job summary

Priory Hospital Newbury in Berkshire seeks an Occupational Therapist Assistant to support recovery and deliver tailored treatment plans with dignity and high standards of care. You will assist in planning and delivering therapeutic activities, supporting independence and daily living skills within a multidisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes patient-centred care, collaboration, and maintaining accurate records to track progress and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) providing Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).
• Experience in mental health settings and supporting individuals with psychological needs is advantageous.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a MDT.

Responsibilities

• Support the Occupational Therapist in planning and delivering therapeutic activities to promote patients’ independence, wellbeing and recovery.
• Assist patients in developing daily living skills, including personal care, self-care routines and practical life skills.
• Facilitate individual and group activities designed to improve social interaction, confidence, communication and engagement.
• Encourage patients to participate in meaningful occupations and therapeutic activities that support their recovery goals.
• Work with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to support person-centred care and contribute to treatment plans.
• Monitor and report patients’ progress and any changes in presentation to the Occupational Therapist and wider clinical team.
• Maintain safe, supportive environments and prepare therapeutic resources and group sessions as required.
• Maintain accurate records of patient participation and ensure activities align with clinical policies.
