Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse to join our mental health team at HMP New Hall based in Wakefield. HMP New Hall is a female adult and young offenders institution offering a medium level of security with a population of 344 females. The team consists of 8 members including a senior mental health nurse, an LD nurse, mental health nurses and HCA’s. The mental health team have an office based in the healthcare department; however you will be mainly based on the prison wings conducting clinics, assessments days and dealing with caseloads.

Hours

  • 7 days service with rota’s done 1 month in advance
  • Monday to Sunday service – 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays 9am – 5pm
  • 1 weekend in 5
  • Rota’s done 4 weeks in advance

Salary

This position is full time. You’ll receive an annual salary up to £33,232 - £40,211 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Nurse your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options
  • Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed
  • Assess patients’ health needs using an evidence-based framework and be able to risk assess; use sound clinical knowledge; open, maintain, close and take part in reviews of individuals managed under ACCT (Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork)
