Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse to join our mental health team at HMP New Hall based in Wakefield.

HMP New Hall is a female adult and young offenders institution offering medium level of security with a population of 344 females. The team consists of a senior mental health nurse, LD nurse, mental health nurses and HCAs. The mental health team have an office based in within the healthcare department; however you will be mainly based on the prison wings conducting clinics, assessments days and dealing with case loads.

Hours

The site offers a 7 days service and rosters are done 1 month in advance.

  • Monday Sunday service - 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays 9am - 5pm
  • 1 weekend in 5
  • Rota's done 4 weeks in advance
Salary

This position is full time; you’ll receive an annual salary up to £33,232 - £40,211 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK on a permanent basis and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Your responsibilities
  • You will work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options.
  • You will undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed.
  • You will assess patients’ health needs using an evidence-based framework and be able to risk assess using sound clinical knowledge, as well as open, maintain, close and take part in reviews of individuals being managed under the Prison Suicide and Self Harm risk management system known as ACCT (Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork).
