The role offers you the opportunity to become a specialist in forensic Mental Health Nursing, working with a multi-disciplinary team to support Adults through some of their most challenging times.
Norbury ward is a 12-bedded unit for male individuals located in River House Medium Secure Unit at Bethlem Royal Hospital. Norbury ward serves two functions: as a Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) and the main admissions unit for patients without a clear treatment plan to the forensic service, with admissions determined by the Acute (A2) pathways panel. It also provides short-stay intensive care for individuals whose level of disturbance requires specialized management.
As a nurse on the unit, you will be supported by the senior nursing team to develop your skills and knowledge. Your role involves direct care of service users, coordination of care, and engaging effectively with service users and their families. You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to develop individualized, recovery-focused plans, adhering to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct. Emphasis is placed on communication, openness to learning, reflection, and proactive engagement.
Main duties include holding the Nurse in Charge position during shifts, conducting dynamic and individualized risk assessments, managing risk incidences, clinical handovers, planning, leadership, decision-making, safe medication management, communication, team working, and supervising junior staff as needed.
