Job summary

Cygnet is recruiting for a Mental Health Law Practitioner to support MHA administration across the Grange and Lodge. The role is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a salary of £29,110 per annum.

You will ensure legal procedures under the Mental Health Act are adhered to and support detention processes with meticulous record-keeping. Ideal candidates will have admin experience, strong MS Office skills, GCSE English and Maths, and excellent organisational abilities.

Qualifications

  • Administration experience including report preparation and coordinating meetings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • GCSE level (or equivalent) with English and Maths.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience of working in a Healthcare environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA 1983) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of compliance and auditing systems (CVC) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure procedures relating to the Mental Health Act and related legislation are followed.
  • Ensure the legal detention of patients is correctly managed.
  • Maintain adequate records for detained patients.
  • Ensure safe storage of detention-related documentation.
  • Receive section papers during working hours.
  • Correct errors in detention paperwork to meet legal requirements.
  • Inform patients and relatives of rights and assist with exercising them.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of mental health solicitors and support representation at hearings where possible.

We are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Law Practitioner, to support the MHA Administrator in ensuring the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 across the Grange and Lodge.
Your day-to-day…
40 hours per week – Monday – Friday
Salary: £29,110 per annum

  • To ensure that all procedures relative to the Mental Health Act and associated legislation are adhered to.
  • Ensure the legal detention of patients.
  • Ensure adequate records for detained patients are maintained.
  • Ensure adequate and safe storage of documentation.
  • Receive section papers during working hours.
  • Arrange correction of errors relating to detention of patients to meet all legal requirements.
  • Ensure patient and nearest relatives are aware of individual rights and power of detention in force and assist as required with exercising these rights.
  • Ensure an up-to-date list of mental health solicitors is available to patients and that patients are represented at hearings or appeals where possible or appropriate.
We Are Looking For People Who Have
  • Previous administration experience including report preparation, organising meetings, liaising with customers/clients
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) with qualifications in English and Maths
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Experience of working in a Healthcare environment alongside medical practitioners is desirable
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA 1983) is desirable
  • Knowledge of compliance and auditing systems required by regulatory bodies (CVC) is desirable
