Summary of role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Medicines Management and Dispensary Technician to join our Pharmacy department at The London Clinic, based at our main hospital in London (W1G 6JA). We offer a competitive salary (Band 5 NHS equivalent) depending on experience.

Established in 1932, The London Clinic is one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, with 8 state-of-the-art facilities and approximately 1350 employees. We are dedicated to providing expert, individualized treatment and care. Our main hospital spans 8 floors, with over 150 patient beds and 10 operating theatres, including a Hybrid theatre and two minimally invasive/day surgery theatres. Our specialties include General surgery, ENT, Gynaecology, Hepatobiliary, Neuro-spinal, Ophthalmic, Orthopaedic, Plastic and reconstructive, Robotic, Urology, Vascular, and Bariatric surgery.

Job Profile

This role involves participating in a safe, efficient, and accurate pharmacy service led by technicians across all sites at The London Clinic. The position rotates through the Main Site Dispensary, Duchess of Devonshire (DDW) Cancer Services Dispensary, and MMT services.

The post holder will ensure the delivery of dispensary, MMT, and ward services in a safe, effective, and timely manner, adhering to current legislation and guidelines.

  • Job Type: Full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours/week
  • Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm
  • Location: 20 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW (near Regents Park/Baker St stations)
  • Salary: Band 5 NHS Equivalent

Key Duties

  • Perform Medicine Management duties such as assessing Patients Own Drugs, drug history taking, near patient dispensing, discharge facilitation, ordering medicines, and annotating drug charts, under supervision until trained.
  • Assist ward pharmacists in patient counseling, especially regarding discharge medication.
  • Provide advanced medicine optimization with clinical prioritization upon qualification.
  • Support safe and accurate dispensing, including controlled drugs and oral chemotherapy.
  • Support workflow management of dispensary staff, ensuring SOPs are followed.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in Medicines Management
  • Experience in ward pharmacy services
