A leading academic institution in Southampton is seeking a Medical Statistician to lead quantitative studies in maternal and child health. The role involves data management, statistical analysis, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams. A position is available in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton for a Medical Statistician with an interest in preconception, maternal and child health. The position is based at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre at Southampton General Hospital.
The post holder will lead and contribute to quantitative studies in relation to the world-leading NiPPeR trial (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/research/institutes-centres/nipper-study ). While keeping clear documentation they will organise data management, perform quality control on data, conduct statistical analysis, and develop statistical analysis plans.
The post holder will work closely with a range of colleagues and partners, including other statisticians, research fellows, computing staff, and research doctors and nurses. The post-holder will have the responsibility for communicating complex information effectively to clinical scientists and non-statisticians.
You will have an MSc or PhD in Statistics, and experience or an interest in medical or public health research. Previous experience of applying statistical methods to epidemiological studies, is desirable. You will possess excellent organisational, communication and computing skills, with the ability to work independently and have experience of effectively working with multi-disciplinary colleagues and partners.
This position is fixed term and will be offered full time (1.0 FTE) for 1 year in the first instance from the start date.
Hybrid working options can be discussed, and part-time applications will be considered. The post-holder will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their time based in the office at MRC LEC.
