Role Summary

The Medical Staffing Officer will deliver a high‑quality, customer‑focused service as the key point of contact for managers and Medical & Dental staff. The post holder will provide proactive, comprehensive and professional day‑to‑day HR support, offering clear advice and guidance to current, prospective and former staff. In addition, the role will support the end‑to‑end recruitment process for senior medical and dental posts, ensuring all activity is carried out in line with Trust policies, procedures and best practice.

We’re thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a proactive, organised, and enthusiastic individual to become a key member of our vibrant Medical Staffing Team.

In this role, you will be working closely with clinical and managerial colleagues to deliver a wide range of high‑impact, time‑critical tasks. No two days will be the same, and your work will directly support the smooth running of medical services across the Trust. Key responsibilities include (full details in the Job Description):

  • Leading the end‑to‑end recruitment process for Senior Medical & Dental roles, including Consultants, SAS Doctors, GPs, and leadership posts.
  • Organising and attending Consultant Advisory Appointments Committees, ensuring professional interview standards and accurate documentation.
  • Responding to complex queries and offering expert advice on HR policies, procedures, and best practice.
  • Acting as a specialist on Resident Doctor Terms & Conditions, collaborating with rota coordinators to build and authorise compliant resident doctor rotas.
  • Leading on the implementation of recently agreed (Resident Doctor) and future National contract reforms.
  • Providing expertise on Consultant and SAS Terms & Conditions, supporting queries on job planning and pay progression.
  • Leading on Resident Doctor rotations across the trust.

You’ll build strong working relationships across medical and management teams, so excellent communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills are essential. You’ll need confidence, resilience, and the ability to make decisions and manage deadlines in a busy environment.

Confidence with Excel—including manipulating spreadsheets and producing reports—is also key.

This role offers hybrid working, with a blend of home and office-based working, and regular attendance at meetings and interviews on either hospital site.

You will champion outstanding customer service, contribute to the reputation of the Medical Staffing Team, and drive continuous improvement to support our medical workforce.

The post can be based at Newcourt House, Exeter or Devonshire House, Barnstaple.

Working Pattern: Part time – 31 hours per week. A full-time job share may be considered.
