An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, calm, and methodical team player to become a medical secretary and provide essential administration within the Ophthalmology SBU. Principle duties include audio/digital typing of clinic letters and other internal and external correspondence, on behalf of the clinical teams, ensuring all documentation is correct. Maintaining the consultant's diary, arranging appointments and meetings, and coordinating non-clinical meetings to fit in with clinical commitments.
You will be expected to have an excellent telephone manner, be courteous and efficient, and have an excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel spreadsheets, emails, and use of an electronic diary.

Undertake secretarial duties for consultants and their team, produce and deliver clinic letters and correspondence using audio typing/software, request records, and ensure efficient filing and tracking systems. Deal with all queries via telephone, post, or email, prioritise as necessary, and ensure urgent information is communicated promptly.
Process new referrals promptly, maintain investigation trackers, arrange appointments, and oversee clinic preparations. Liaise with other departments, GPs, and hospitals. Manage targets related to patient correspondence, understand patient pathways, and work towards national and local standards.
Assist in accessing records, monitor missing outcomes, and support statistical and presentation needs. Play a key role in crisis management and liaise with validators.
Arrange appointments, manage calls from patients and relatives, listen and resolve concerns professionally, provide information, and understand NHS policies like Patient Choice and electronic booking. Use the Trust's PAS and other systems accurately.
This post requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
