Job summary

The University of Kent invites applications for the role of Technician (Media) within the Section Technical Services in Canterbury. You will join a technical support team delivering specialised research and teaching support to students, staff and visitors, using your experience with complex technical equipment.

The post is full-time, permanent, with a Grade 5 level, salary £27,319 to £30,378 per annum, and a friendly, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Educated to A level in a relevant subject or equivalent vocational qualifications.
  • Proven experience of working in a Technical support role.
  • Relevant theoretical knowledge in a related work area.
  • Experience using complex technical equipment.
  • Excellent working knowledge of safety regulations, legislation, and procedures. For example, Risk assessment, COSHH.

Responsibilities

  • Working on own initiative with minimal supervision, solving problems independently and maintaining the working environment.
  • Planning and performing activities independently using a range of techniques, sometimes from a limited brief.
  • Liaising with staff, students and visitors, and dealing with routine external service providers to keep facilities and equipment operational.
  • Operating technical equipment and undertaking routine maintenance tasks, fault finding and basic repairs.
