Job summary

Brockenhurst College is seeking a dedicated Media Technician on a full-time, term-time-only basis. The role involves providing technical, practical and administrative support for Media, Film and T Level programs, ensuring facilities and equipment are kept to a professional standard.

Job description

Brockenhurst College are looking to recruit a Media Technician on a full time, term time only basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £24,834 per annum pro rata.

The Media Technician Role:

As our Media Technician, you will provide specialist technical, practical and administrative support for the delivery of Media, Film and T Level Media, Broadcast and Production programmes. The postholder will support teaching staff in the preparation, delivery and assessment of practical activities whilst ensuring that industry-standard facilities, equipment and resources are maintained to a professional standard.

You will provide technical guidance and support to students, enabling them to develop safe and effective working practices within photography, video production, content creation, audio production, live events and post-production environments.

Responsibilities as our Media Technician:
  • Prepare, set up and de-rig specialist media equipment for lessons, workshops, assessments and events.
  • Ensure studios, green screen facilities, podcast spaces and editing suites are maintained to a professional standard.
  • Organise and maintain storage systems for cameras, lighting, audio equipment, props and other specialist equipment.
  • Manage booking systems for studios, specialist facilities and equipment loans.
  • Support the preparation and operation of facilities for student productions, showcases, exhibitions, open events and industry projects.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all media, broadcast and production equipment.
  • Oversee the issue, tracking and return of equipment to staff and students.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables, batteries, memory cards, storage drives and production materials.
  • Assist with ordering equipment, software licences and consumable resources in line with departmental budgets.
  • Research and recommend new technologies, software and equipment to support curriculum delivery and industry requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, equipment loans and asset registers.
  • Carry out routine checks, testing and maintenance of cameras, lighting, audio equipment, computers and specialist media technology.
  • Ensure editing workstations, software and specialist equipment remain operational and up to date.
  • Support staff and students with technical troubleshooting during lessons and independent project work.
  • Assist with media file management, archiving, backups and digital asset storage.
  • Promote safe working practices across all media, broadcast and production activities.
  • Support curriculum staff in undertaking risk assessments for practical activities, productions and off-site filming.
  • Ensure all equipment is used, stored and maintained safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidance.
  • Maintain records relating to equipment inspections, servicing, PAT testing and health and safety checks.
  • Support compliance with college health and safety policies, safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation.
As our Media Technician, you’ll ideally have:
  • Good general education
  • Audio visual and Photomedia equipment use and handling including Photographic and Media studio skills.
  • Filming and editing skills
  • Adobe software suite including Premier and Photoshop to a high level
  • Good with figures
  • Competent with Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Teams
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, software and IT
  • Organisational skills
  • Familiarity with use of a range of hand tools and power tools
