Job summary

The Talent Set is partnering with a leading children's charity to recruit a Media and Communications Manager (Influencing) in the United Kingdom. The role focuses on translating policy and public affairs work into proactive media coverage and high-impact campaign messaging.

You will manage a small team, handle daily press office duties, build media relationships, and lead on national campaigns with marketing and fundraising colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Strong track record working with policy/public affairs to translate issues into media coverage and drive policy-led campaigns.
  • Experience managing direct reports, developing staff, managing performance, and adopting new working practices and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Policy and Public Affairs teams to translate policy into media opportunities and position the charity as a thought leader.
  • Amplify the charity's voice on issues affecting service users with powerful stories across media channels.
  • Provide line management and support to direct reports, helping them grow and adopt new tools and technology.
  • Help run a modern, proactive press office, handling daily media enquiries, out-of-hours duty rotas, and reputational risk management.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and internal spokespeople, assisting with spokesperson training.
  • Lead on media planning for high-profile national campaigns alongside internal marketing, digital, and fundraising teams.
  • Write high-quality press releases, opinion pieces, statements, and social media copy.

Job description

  • Find creative ways to amplify the charity's voice on issues affecting their service users, promoting powerful stories across media channels.
  • Provide line management and support to direct reports, helping them grow, adopt new tools and technology, and continuously develop.
  • Help run a modern, proactive press office, handling daily media enquiries, out-of-hours duty rotas, and reputational risk management.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and internal spokespeople, assisting with spokesperson training.
  • Lead on media planning for high-profile national campaigns alongside internal marketing, digital, and fundraising teams.
  • Write high-quality press releases, opinion pieces, statements, and social media copy.
Person Specifications
  • Strong track record of working alongside policy or public affairs teams to translate complex issues into engaging media coverage, pitch stories, and drive policy-led campaigns.
  • Demonstrable experience managing direct reports, with a focus on developing team members, managing performance, and guiding staff through adopting new working practices and technology.
  • Proven ability to build strong media contacts, spot proactive opportunities, and deliver high-impact coverage.
  • An "outside the box" mindset with the confidence to advise internal stakeholders, make clear decisions, and prepare spokespeople for robust media interactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience handling sensitive topics and reputational risks calmly and accurately.
What's on Offer:

A salary of £40,000-£45,000 FTE

Full time role, flexible working, monthly travel to London, plus travel for meetings etc.

An FTC until June 2027, starting ASAP

Interviews will be happening 7th, 8th and 9th October
