Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join our waste team at Chertsey STW.

A Mechanical Technician is required to support the Process Technicians in ensuring the overall operations of Chertsey Sewage Treatment Works. You will need to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant equipment, alongside supporting plant operation.

Working within the team, you will follow a robust maintenance plan, participate in installation projects, mechanical fault finding, project commissioning, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure continuous plant operation.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician
  1. Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents.
  2. Perform scheduled maintenance on mechanical equipment following company standards and procedures.
  3. Provide technical advice and support to the team, including training for technical trainees if required.
  4. Maintain equipment such as pumps, control gear, valves, flow, level, and pressure measurement devices, pipework, and chemical handling equipment.

Base Location: Chertsey STW - KT16 0AR.

Hours: 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm, plus standby rota with additional pay.

All PPE, tools, and a van are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • Time-served apprenticeship with significant experience in mechanical systems, NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering, and an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Experience inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying, or repairing mechanical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Participation in a 24/7 standby rota after training.
  • A Full UK driving licence.
