Job description: We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Systems Designer to join the Cadillac Formula 1 Team at its new Silverstone Facility. In this role, you will undertake the mechanical design & engineering of components/assemblies for our car sub-systems. This will chiefly involve the Cooling, Fuel, Pneumatic, Hydraulic & Exhaust Systems, but also extend to other Powertrain Integration activities. Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Prepare schemes, layouts, and detail drawings of car system parts, all with the objective of being right first time.
  2. Take ownership of your areas and ensure they meet requirements. This ownership will extend to fault finding and solutions following rig/trackside feedback.
  3. Technical liaison with other relevant Cadillac departments, our Power Unit partner & suppliers/users of your parts.
  4. Continually strive for the correct balance between performance, reliability & cost.
  5. Stay current with developments within your area of responsibility.
  6. Support sustainable manufacture without sacrificing car performance.

Requirements

  1. A degree in a relevant discipline (Engineering) or similar, 2:1 or above preferred.
  2. Significant experience of high-end CAD systems. Catia/3DX preferred but training can be provided for anyone coming from a different system.
  3. Strong working knowledge of the principles and physics of race car systems.
  4. Design experience in at least one of: Powertrain Integration, Cooling, Fuel or Hydraulic systems, ideally in the motorsport industry. Composite design experience not essential but would be an advantage.
  5. An active interest in innovating, for example: taking inspiration from nature/other industries, implementing new technology, additive manufacture, using AI tools, automating tasks etc.
  6. Inquisitive, committed to continuous learning, and flexible when plans change.
  7. Clear and concise communication, verbally and with email.
  8. Self-motivated, innovative, and comfortable working independently, while meeting challenging deadlines.
  9. Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  10. Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture.
