Job summary

The role requires completing daily records, adhering to health and safety rules, assisting with weed control trials, and supporting service delivery during leaf and snow seasons.

Job Introduction Mechanical Sweeper Driver-East We are looking for a Mechanical Sweeper Driver to join our dedicated team in the Parks & Street Cleansing East. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city. The main responsibilities of this role:To ensure safety of other road users and the public are a key priority whilst operating the vehicle and whilst sweeping. Must be fully aware of surroundings including parked/moving vehicles across restrictions and pedestrians at all times, operating solely without a banks person. To ensure hazards on pavements e.g. trees, signs, bus shelters etc are managed appropriately.Undertake regular risk assessments across the district in a range of setting including busy locations, pedestrianised areas, gateways, central reservations, back streets and other areas making informed decisions routinely within established procedures.Responsible for ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks including operating and security checks of up to £200,00+ vehicles assests ensuring vehicle is correctly, safely and legally compliant with no overloading and properly tipping off.Must be fully aware of legal operating and health and safety requirements, vehicle maintenance operating requirements and undertake/record daily vehicle checks and maintenance of vehicles.Complete legal and statutory paperwork and reports such as vehicle records, defect reports, accident forms, other associated information as necessary.Trained, skilled and experienced operating fire safety equipment and evacuation of vehicles ensuring appropriate compliance to safety measures in the event of emergency situations arising and resulting in vehicle igniting.Maximise time in busy periods such as leaf and snow season to lone work routinely ensuring work schedules and where applicable service level agreement activities are delivered.Often the first point of contact in the public and is expected to act as a Council ambassador dealing with requests from members of the public and dealing with these appropriately sometimes which can be contentious situations.Service improvement and trialling of new technology and/or new ways or working jointly with other services and partners as well as test and learn projects e.g. trial of weed spraying through mechanical sweepers.Be aware of surrounds, moving vehicles, public and other hazards when operating mechanical sweepers, using appropriate attachments i.e. wander hose and jetter equipment to carry out sweeping and ancillary duties, this can include working on central reservations in busy highways areas.To undertake relevant training and activities and to support induction/on the job training of new starts as well as agency and/or other temporary staff.Responsibility to ensure the smooth and effective running of specialist equipment and devices within the sweepers such as tachographs, in-cab technology and other technological systems to support management reporting, monitoring and evaluation to improve service delivery and improve operational plans.Ensure all PPE is worn, and all waste collection and health and safety procedures are followed.Post holders are expected to undertake other cleansing duties and responsibilities relevant to the nature, level and scope of the post.How to ApplyIf you are interested in joining our team and would like some further information, please contact Claire Grooby Recruiting Manager on email [e-mail] OfferEqual OpportunitiesWe are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and able to thrive.
