Job Description
Primary Purpose:

Provides first-line supervision of various craft personnel on an assigned shift for mechanical operations. Duties vary depending on whether the position is located at a freight car or locomotive repair facility.

Principal Duties:
  • Overhaul of diesel locomotives and their electrical and mechanical components (locomotive facility).
  • Overhaul, repair, and modification of freight cars' mechanical and electrical systems (freight car facility).
  • Inspect, service, and repair freight cars.
  • Maintain support and shop equipment, including tools and dies.
  • Handle line-of-road train problems and repairs.
  • Supervise emergency situations such as derailments, crossing accidents, spillage, or lading problems.
Job Related (Railroad) Experience:
  • Minimum: 1-2 years
  • Preferred: 1-2 years
Education:
  • Preferred: High School Diploma/GED
  • Preferred Majors: Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Mechanical Engineering
Skills:
  • Leadership experience with conflict resolution and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ability to promote safety awareness and accident prevention.
  • Flexibility to relocate and work varied days/hours.
  • Knowledge and maintenance experience of engines and machinery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TYES.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
