Job summary

Borne Resourcing Limited is recruiting a Mechanical Supervisor for a freelance assignment in London. The project covers like-for-like boiler replacements and plant room modernisations inside a live hotel environment, prioritising service continuity and guest comfort.

You will oversee boiler replacements, pump installs, pipework modifications, valve configurations, and BMS-related commissioning, coordinating with subcontractors and hotel management to minimise disruption.

Qualifications

• SSSTS certification is required.
• Extensive background in commercial pipefitting and industrial plumbing.
• Direct experience with hotel or large-scale plant rooms.
• Strong knowledge of hydronic flow, inclusive of direct and reverse returns and pump sets.

Responsibilities

• Hotel Plant Room Upgrade: Supervise and install like-for-like boiler replacements and new pump sets within operational hotel plant room.
• System Modifications: Oversee complex pipework modifications, ensuring correct implementation of reverse return layouts to maintain balanced water flow across multiple boiler units.
• Valves & Controls: Manage the configuration of heavy-duty commercial valving (isolation valves, non-return/check valves, PRVs, and zone control valves).
• BMS & Commissioning: Coordinate with BMS upgrades, utilize PT ports for pressure/flow diagnostics, and oversee full system commissioning to safely bring new boilers online.
• Site Supervision: Act as the competent onsite supervisor, managing health and safety, coordinating sub-contractors, and liaising with hotel management to minimise guest disruption.

Experienced Mechanical Supervisor with a strong foundation in commercial pipefitting to oversee mechanical upgrades strictly within a live hotel plant room.

This role is specifically centred around like-for-like hotel boiler replacements and plant room modernisations. This is not a domestic plumbing role; it requires a high-level commercial pipefitting supervisor who understands the complexities of maintaining service continuity in high-occupancy hospitality environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Hotel Plant Room Upgrade: Supervise and install like-for-like boiler replacements and new pump sets within operational hotel plant room.
• System Modifications: Oversee complex pipework modifications, ensuring correct implementation of reverse return layouts to maintain balanced water flow across multiple boiler units.
• Valves & Controls: Manage the configuration of heavy-duty commercial valving (isolation valves, non-return/check valves, PRVs, and zone control valves).
• BMS & Commissioning: Coordinate with BMS upgrades, utilize PT ports (test/balancing nipples) for pressure/flow diagnostics, and oversee full system commissioning to safely bring new boilers online.
• Site Supervision: Act as the competent onsite supervisor, managing health and safety, coordinating sub-contractors, and liaising with hotel management to minimise guest disruption.

Required Criteria

• Qualifications: Valid SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) is essential.
• Background: Proven, extensive background in commercial pipefitting and industrial plumbing.
• Plant Room Expertise: Direct experience managing like-for-like boiler replacements in commercial plant rooms (ideally hotels, hospitals, or large student accommodation blocks).
