Job summary

Morson Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Shift Technician for a Liverpool area site. You will perform planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on heavy plant, ensuring reliability and safe operation of conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics and rotating equipment.

The role requires a strong mechanical background in bulk-handling or heavy industrial environments, a valid UK driving licence, and familiarity with Permit to Work and CMMS tools.

Qualifications

• Minimum mechanical engineering qualification (ONC/HNC or NVQ3).
• Experience maintaining heavy plant in bulk-handling environments.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
• Knowledge of Permit to Work and safe maintenance practices.
• Experience using SAP CMMS is advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence.

Mechanical Shift Technician
Location: Liverpool / Merseyside
Salary: £51,667 + Benefits
Contract: Permanent
Shift pattern: 3 on 3 off

We are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Shift Technician to join a well-established industrial organisation based in the Liverpool area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased maintenance professional with experience working in a heavy industrial, process or bulk-handling environment. You will join an established engineering team responsible for ensuring plant and equipment remain safe, reliable and operational.

The Role

Working as part of the Engineering team, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across a range of heavy plant and equipment.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and responding to equipment breakdowns
• Maintaining and repairing equipment including conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and rotating equipment
• Carrying out plant modifications and supporting engineering improvement projects
• Working closely with operational teams to prioritise breakdowns and minimise downtime
• Accurately documenting maintenance activities
• Working in accordance with Permit to Work systems and site Health & Safety procedures
• Supporting continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives

About You

We are looking for candidates with a strong mechanical maintenance background gained within a heavy industrial environment.

Ideally, you will have:

• A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification, ideally ONC/HNC or NVQ level 3
• Previous experience maintaining heavy plant and industrial equipment
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Practical experience with conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics and/or rotating equipment
• Knowledge of Permit to Work systems and safe maintenance practices
• Experience using a CMMS such as SAP would be advantageous
• Knowledge of maintenance strategies such as PPM, RCM, CBM or TPM would be beneficial
• A full UK driving licence
• Experience gained within bulk handling, quarrying, aggregates, recycling, manufacturing, process, power generation or other heavy industrial environments would be particularly relevant.
