Job summary

BEWI UK is seeking a skilled technician to maintain and repair equipment and tools across the factory. You will support production by performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing faults and implementing repairs with due regard for safety and efficiency.

The role involves early, late and night shifts and requires a time-served apprenticeship with City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3, plus hands-on production experience and strong safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), routine inspections, reports and remedial work.
  • Diagnose electrics, pneumatic, hydraulic and process faults with confidence.
  • Repair and maintain serviceable valves and spares, monitor machine performance and stock levels.
  • Ensure machines are isolated and locked off before commencing work.
  • Overtime and weekend cover may be required; adapt to shift changes.

Job description

About the role

The overall purpose of this role is to maintain and repair equipment, machinery and tools used in the factory. To provide effective maintenance support to the production team. Carry out repairs to a high standard, working within the engineering team to drive best practice, and communicating effectively with the production department to ensure the smooth running of operations.

Rotational Shift Pattern
  • Early Shift: 5:00am – 1:00pm, Monday to Thursday; 5:00am – 12:00am on Friday
  • Late Shift: 2:00pm – 10:00pm, Monday to Thursday; 1:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday
  • Night Shift: 10:00pm – 6:00am (pattern subject to future change with advance notice)
What will you do?

Note: In addition to these functions employees are required to carry out other duties and responsibilities as reasonably required

Maintenance
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), routine inspections, reports and remedial work.
  • Closely monitor machine performance, identifying and investigating faults.
  • Repair and maintain serviceable valves and spares, ensuring stock levels are correct. Complete a visual check of machines for faults or potential problems.
  • Leave machines in a tidy condition. Carry out all welding and fabrication repairs safely using PPE as provided.
  • Report faults to the engineering supervisor or works manager.
  • Provide technical support for Plant facilities and services, including moulding machines, steam, compressed air, water process pumps and vacuum units.
Breakdowns
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns as instructed by production; carry out pre-checks to identify faults.
  • Diagnose electrics, pneumatic, hydraulic and process function faults with confidence.
  • Communicate time scales to the production supervisor to repair. Prioritise downtime until machines are back up and running.
  • Work independently with operatives and make decisions on machine priorities.
Plant & Services
  • At the start of your shift ensure plant and services are correct and that the factory has adequate services for machines; carry out boiler checks.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritise and self-manage daily activity for efficiency.
  • Ensure machines are isolated and locked off before commencing work.
  • Overtime – some overtime may be required during the week and weekends.
  • Holiday/sick cover on the production line; provide cover within the engineering department when needed; shifts may change.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position does not carry any initial responsibility for direct reports.

  • To be decided in review meetings with the Engineering Supervisor; reflects ongoing projects.
