Briggs & Forrester Living is seeking a mechanical services design engineer to join the Northampton head office. You will work on residential projects including high rises, student accommodation and hotels, coordinating with BIM and estimating teams to deliver compliant designs and timely tenders.

The role emphasizes design development, collaboration across professionals, and ongoing professional development within a fast-paced, team‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive technical knowledge of all aspects of mechanical and public health services design.
• Clear ability to problem solve and address challenges during the design process.
• Understanding of Building Safety Act and compliant systems for Higher Risk Buildings.
• Commercial awareness to align designs with budgets and cost plans.

Responsibilities

• Develop designs from stages through to BSRIA Stage 6.
• Assist with tender production for design and build projects with estimating team.
• Coordinate with BIM team to develop 3D models and 2D drawings.
• Support project teams through installation, commissioning and handover phases.
• Ensure designs comply with employers' and statutory health and safety standards.
• Interface with specialist subcontractors, manufacturers, and suppliers.
• Participate in meetings in person and remotely.
• Suggest alternative design solutions to benefit projects.
• Monitor design progress and prepare progress reports.
• Pursue Continual Professional Development and role-specific training.
