Job summary

IntaPeople is recruiting a Mechanical Lead on a major manufacturing site in Newport. You will own mechanical design on capital projects from concept through commissioning, leading 14 engineers across disciplines and delivering robust piping and equipment design.

Awarded projects range from £10,000 to £5 million; you will prepare drawings, write specs, build cost estimates, and manage budgets and schedules while maintaining site safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering.
• Experience on process/manufacturing site.
• Hands-on piping design and equipment specs.
• Ability to manage budgets and schedules.
• Strong site safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed drawings and design packages for piping and equipment fabrication.
• Lead the mechanical design on capital projects from concept through approval, procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Write equipment specifications and tender documents.
• Build cost estimates and provide spend forecasts for projects.
• Coordinate contractors on site to ensure safety, accuracy and efficiency.
• Write and review risk assessments, method statements and job safety analyses.
• Raise modifications and manage change for delivered work.
• Support the site with excavation permits.
• Act as a Site Responsible Person and induct supervising contractors.
• Ensure projects meet internal and external standards.
• Around 80% of the role is design and construction; rest is project management.
