Job summary

VANRATH is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager in Belfast to lead specialist works within an M&E contractor framework. You will manage mechanical project delivery from enquiry through mobilisation, pricing, procurement and handover, coordinating site teams and stakeholders while maintaining programme and budget controls.

The role requires 2+ years of relevant experience, a mechanical engineering background, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of mechanical project delivery experience in M&E/building services or construction
  • Qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or related discipline
  • Good understanding of mechanical building services installations
  • Trade background with experience of welded pipe systems
  • Experience coordinating mechanical works on construction projects
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of project costs and procurement
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and project documentation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients and site teams
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving project issues
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements in construction
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience with Steam Systems is desirable
  • Experience with Procore or similar PM software is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Generate pipeline of work and assist Senior Management
  • Price and win appropriate work in line with company strategy
  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day delivery of mechanical projects
  • Ensure programmes, budgets and delivery requirements are met
  • Coordinate site activities, labour, subcontractors, materials and plant
  • Procure and schedule materials and equipment
  • Monitor progress and flag delays or risks to Contracts Manager
  • Attend project, site and coordination meetings
  • Maintain communication with clients, main contractors and internal teams
  • Support site supervisors and subcontractors
  • Review drawings and specifications to meet project requirements
  • Work with design/BIM teams to resolve coordination issues
  • Manage variations and changes to project scope
  • Ensure works comply with Health & Safety and quality standards
  • Assist with commissioning, snagging and handover documentation
  • Maintain project records and progress information
  • Promote use of Procore/BIM and digital tools
  • Identify issues early and drive practical solutions
  • Promote off-site fabrication where possible

Client: Leading M&E Contractor that have been operating for decades, providing M&E services across the UK and Ireland. The business has a great reputation for delivering quality projects on time, on budget, safely and to first class standards. They work across a range of sectors including commercial, industrial, health, education, leisure and residential.

The Role: Reporting to Senior Management, the Mechanical Project Manager will support the successful delivery of mechanical projects from enquiry through mobilisation, delivery, completion and handover. The role will involve generating works enquiries, pricing small projects (larger projects will have additional estimating resource as applicable) procuring materials, agreeing labour and coordinating site activities while working closely with wider management, site teams, clients and other project stakeholders. The successful candidate will take responsibility for day-to-day management and coordination of specialist / small works projects, ensuring enquiries are priced successfully, and works are delivered safely, efficiently, to programme and to the expected quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate pipeline of work, with input from Senior Management
  • Successfully price and win appropriate work in line with Company Strategy
  • Manage and coordinate the day-to-day delivery of assigned mechanical projects
  • Ensure project programmes, budgets and delivery requirements are achieved
  • Coordinate mechanical site activities, labour, subcontractors, materials and plant
  • Assist with the procurement and scheduling of materials and equipment to ensure they are available when required
  • Monitor project progress against programme and highlight potential delays, risks or issues to the Contracts Manager
  • Attend project, site and coordination meetings as required
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, main contractors, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams
  • Support and provide direction to site supervisors, operatives and subcontractors
  • Review drawings, specifications and project information to ensure works are delivered in accordance with project requirements
  • Work closely with design/BIM teams to identify and resolve coordination issues
  • Management of variations and changes to project scope
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety procedures and project-specific requirements
  • Monitor workmanship and quality standards throughout project delivery
  • Assist with commissioning, snagging, handover documentation and successful project completion
  • Maintain accurate project records, progress information and relevant documentation
  • Promote the effective use of digital project management tools, including Procore and BIM
  • Identify project issues at an early stage and work with the Contracts Manager and wider project team to achieve practical solutions
  • Promote the effect use of off-site fabrication methods

Criteria:

  • 2+ years previous experience in mechanical project delivery within the M&E, building services or construction industry
  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Construction Management or a related discipline
  • A good understanding of mechanical building services installations
  • Trade background with experience of welded pipe systems
  • Experience coordinating mechanical works on construction projects
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs, variations and procurement
  • The ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, specifications and project documentation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise with clients, main contractors, consultants and site teams
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider project team
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving project issues
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements within a construction environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Experience and knowledge of Steam Systems is desirable
  • Experience using Procore or similar construction/project management software is desirable
