Job summary

DATS Recruitment in Central London is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join a major project team on a hybrid basis. The role focuses on engineering coordination, interfaces and management of a large mechanical equipment package (Swivel) for an offshore project with an expected duration of ~18 months.

You will work with the Swivel Stack Project Manager, liaising with suppliers, coordinating across disciplines, reviewing drawings, and ensuring technical compliance and timely

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Approximately 5 years' experience as a Project Engineer or Mechanical Project Engineer.
  • Experience delivering complex mechanical equipment packages in offshore, marine, energy, or oil & gas sectors.
  • Strong engineering coordination and project execution capability.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier locations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the successful execution and delivery of a major Swivel package project.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across internal disciplines, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
  • Manage package interfaces to ensure seamless integration with the wider project scope.
  • Review and interpret technical documentation, including 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
  • Liaise directly with vendors and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Attend supplier facilities for Kick-Off Meetings (KOM), Pre-Production Meetings, FAT, design reviews and progress meetings.
  • Monitor engineering deliverables, schedules, and technical compliance requirements.
  • Support technical decision-making and resolve engineering issues throughout project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, class rules, and project specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams.

Working Pattern: Hybrid rota in effect. Flexibility will be required but generally a 2 days office-based, 3 days remote rota applies

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our client's growing project team in Central London. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a major project with an anticipated duration of approximately 18 months.

Working alongside the Swivel Stack Project Manager, you will be responsible for the engineering coordination and management of a large, complex mechanical equipment package (Swivel). The role requires strong project engineering capability, effective stakeholder management, and the ability to coordinate technical interfaces across multiple disciplines and suppliers.

Mechanical Project Engineer - Key Responsibilities
  • Support the successful execution and delivery of a major Swivel package project.

  • Support technical decision-making and resolve engineering issues throughout project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, class rules, and project specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams.
Mechanical Project Engineer - Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 5 years' experience in a Project Engineer or Mechanical Project Engineer role.
  • Experience delivering complex mechanical equipment packages within the offshore, marine, energy, or oil & gas sectors.
  • Strong engineering coordination and project execution experience.
  • Proven package management and interface management capability.
  • Working knowledge of offshore and marine classification standards, including:
  • ABS
  • DNV
  • Familiarity with relevant piping and engineering standards, including:
  • API
  • NORSOK
  • Good understanding of rotating equipment and associated systems.
  • Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier locations as required.
Desirable Experience

Experience working on offshore engineering projects.

Previous involvement in swivel systems, subsea equipment, or other large rotating mechanical assemblies.

Exposure to EPC, EPCM, or major capital project environments.

Experience managing suppliers and manufacturing interfaces.
