Job summary

Dalkia UK is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of activities within the Hinkley Point C programme, ensuring safety, quality, time and cost targets across the contract. The role focuses on building strong relationships, managing schedules and budgets, and assuring compliance in a regulated nuclear environment.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree / HNC in Mechanical Engineering or working towards HNC (Preferred).
  • Educated to Nuclear installation standards including safety critical systems.
  • Working towards Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PMQ or other recognised qualification (Desirable).
  • Track record of delivering projects in complex environments, ideally within Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
  • Experience on heavily unionised sites with IR managers and Trade unions.
  • Experience with Qualified equipment products and services including supporting the EQ process.
  • Experience with QA teams to ensure quality compliance including records, audits and processes.
  • Understanding of nuclear safety culture and projects where this forms the Health & Safety agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies aligned with the programme execution plan.
  • Maintain effective communications with all stakeholders and execute EP strategies.
  • Monitor schedule progress, milestones, deadlines and budgets; report to stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage risks; update programme budget and escalate issues.
  • Capture lessons learned and maintain knowledge-sharing as standard practice.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with project team members.

Hinkley Point C is the UK's first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets. Summary of Role:

As a Project Engineer, you will provide support to ensure the effective delivery of activities in the programme to required safety, quality, time and cost targets, while recognising and managing the impacts of the programme on the wider Project. Your role will be to build strong relationships to ensure project success.

Accountabilities:
  • Driving the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements.
  • Developing and implementing strategies and plans in line with the overall programme execution plan (PEP), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised, and executed.
  • Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or programme EP strategies within their contract or package of work.
  • Monitoring and manage the progress of the schedule - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
  • Anticipating, managing, and resolving issues within the contract or package. Identifying risks and facilitating the resolution of all issues raised, developing, and updating the programme budget, and escalating any issues to the Delivery Manager.
  • Ensuring that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all project team members.
Key Deliverables:

The role is responsible for the overall management and delivery of projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in line with company standards, customer requirements, and relevant legislation. This includes planning and coordinating project activities, allocating resources, monitoring progress, managing procurement schedules, reviewing designs and specifications, overseeing subcontractors and labour, and maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, consultants, and other stakeholders. A key focus is on maintaining high standards of customer service, ensuring quality workmanship, driving programme performance, and supporting the successful execution of all project operations from inception through to completion.

The position also carries responsibility for commercial, administrative, health and safety, and business development activities. This includes monitoring project costs and profitability, managing variations and final accounts, supporting procurement and subcontract administration, maintaining accurate project documentation, and ensuring effective communication and performance management across project teams. The role requires taking ownership of site health and safety compliance, implementing inspections and corrective actions, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring all statutory and company requirements are met. Additionally, the role contributes to customer retention, business growth, and continuous improvement initiatives by developing client relationships and implementing projects that enhance both individual project performance and wider organisational success.

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience:
  • Educated to Degree / HNC in an Mechanical Engineering or working towards HNC (Preferred)
  • Educated to Nuclear installation standards including safety critical systems
  • Working towards Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PMQ or other recognised qualification (Desirable)
  • Track record of delivering projects in complex environments, from concept to handover, within a technically complex and dynamic environment, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.(Desirable)
  • Have experience of working on heavily unionised sites and working alongside IR managers and Trade union representatives
  • Have experience in working with Qualified equipment products and services including supporting the EQ process
  • Have experience working alongside the QA team to ensure quality compliance including all records, audits and process
  • Understand nuclear safety culture and have experience working on projects where this forms the basis of the Health & Safety agenda
