Job summary

Denholm Industrial Services Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical / Plant Fitter to inspect, service, maintain and repair a range of industrial spray painting and abrasive blasting equipment across multiple sites.

You will perform routine maintenance, diagnose faults in pneumatic and hydraulic systems, install and test equipment, keep accurate service records, and support project mobilisation with a proactive, safety-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Must have proven fault-finding and diagnostic abilities on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience maintaining industrial plant or specialist equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals and maintenance documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and repairs on spray painting and blasting equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and operational faults.
• Maintain and repair pumps, compressors, air preparation units, hoses, nozzles and related equipment.
• Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown repairs.
• Install, commission and test equipment on customer/projects sites.
• Maintain maintenance records and service documentation.
• Manage spare parts inventory and replacement requirements.
• Support mobilisation/demobilisation of equipment for projects.
• Adhere to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements.

Job Title: Mechanical / Plant Fitter

Location: Birkenhead

Reports To: Contract Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical / Plant Fitter to inspect, service, maintain, and repair a range of industrial spray painting and abrasive blasting equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment remains safe, reliable, and fully operational to support project delivery across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on spray painting and blasting equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and operational faults.
• Maintain and repair airless spray pumps, blast pots, compressors, air preparation units, hoses, nozzles, and associated equipment.
• Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown repairs.
• Inspect equipment before deployment to ensure compliance with operational and safety standards.
• Install, commission, and test equipment on customer and project sites.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and service documentation.
• Manage spare parts inventory and identify replacement requirements.
• Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company procedures.
• Support the mobilisation and demobilisation of equipment for projects.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and improvements.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements.

Essential Requirements

• You will need to be able to achieve security clearance including BPSS & SC
• Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Plant Fitter, Maintenance Technician, or similar role.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Plant Maintenance, or a related discipline.
• Experience maintaining industrial plant or specialist equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read technical manuals and maintenance documentation.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Ability to work independently and travel to various sites when required.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience with abrasive blasting and industrial spray painting equipment.
• Experience with compressor maintenance and air systems.
• IPAF, PASMA, or forklift certification.
