Job summary

TÜV SÜD in the United Kingdom is seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Engineer to join our flow measurement laboratory. You will install meters, assemble pipework, and perform routine/maintenance across test rigs, with a focus on precise workmanship and safe lab practices.

Role requires time‑served training or NVQ/City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, plus proven lab experience and strong reading of drawings and P&IDs. Excellent fault‑finding and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Time‑served apprenticeship and/or formal qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• Proven pipefitting/mechanical engineering experience in lab or test environments.
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical documents.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, valves, fittings, tools and assembly techniques.
• High attention to detail with fault finding and problem solving.
• Able to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams with a proactive approach.
• Good communication skills and strong Health & Safety understanding in lab context.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, fit and install pipelines, flow meters and mechanical components per drawings.
• Install flow meters in lab setups and support test runs and checks.
• Perform routine and reactive maintenance to keep equipment reliable.
• Develop and improve mechanical systems and pipework for lab testing.
• Conduct inspections, pressure/leak tests and document results.
• Follow HSE requirements; maintain a clean, safe lab workspace.
• Contribute to continuous improvement for reliability and efficiency.
• Document all work in maintenance logs and inspection reports.

Role Overview:

We’re seeking a hands‑on, time‑served Mechanical Engineer to join ourflow measurement laboratory. You’ll install flow meters, assemble and fit pipework, and carry out wider mechanical maintenance across our test rigs and laboratory systems. What you’ll do:

• Assemble, fit and install pipelines, flow meters and associated mechanical components to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Install flow meters within laboratory test setups; support test runs and functional checks.
• Perform routine and reactive maintenance to keep mechanical equipment and rigs operating reliably and efficiently.
• Work closely with engineers and technicians to develop and improve mechanical systems and pipework for lab testing applications.
• Conduct inspections, pressure/leak tests and functional checks on assemblies, pipework and meters; complete test/inspection records.
• Follow company procedures and all Health, Safety & Environmental requirements; maintain a clean, organised laboratory workspace.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to enhance reliability, quality and efficiency.
• Accurately document all work, including maintenance logs and inspection reports.
• Time‑served apprenticeship and/or formal qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds) in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• Proven experience as a pipefitter/mechanical engineer in an engineering or laboratory/test environment.
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical documents.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, valves, fittings, tools and assembly techniques.
• High attention to detail with excellent fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a proactive, can‑do approach.
• Good communication skills and a sound understanding of Health & Safety in an engineering/lab context.
