Job summary

Staffline is recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician (Nights) at our Wellingborough site to maintain packaging production equipment. You will work 12-hour night shifts (7‑7) on a 3 on/2 off, 3 on/4 off pattern, earning £40,000–£45,000 depending on experience.

The role focuses on fault diagnosis, planned maintenance, and continuous improvement to maximise OEE in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with hydraulics/pneumatics are essential.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification Level 2/3 (mechanical or electrical).
• Strong background in mechanical maintenance within manufacturing.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems.
• Basic electrical fault-finding is desirable.
• Ability to diagnose faults and carry out efficient repairs.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced, shift-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out fault diagnosis and repairs on mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance to maximise reliability.
• Troubleshoot breakdowns and implement long-term solutions to minimise downtime.
• Support continuous improvement to optimise equipment performance (OEE).
• Maintain and service site equipment and general mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with production to minimise disruption.
• Complete maintenance records and ensure health & safety standards.
• Assist with basic electrical fault finding and repair where required.

Responsibilities - Mechanical Maintenance Technician

• Carry out fault diagnosis and repairs on mechanical and hydraulic systems across production equipment
• Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to maximise machinery reliability and efficiency
• Troubleshoot breakdowns and implement effective, long‑term solutions to minimise downtime
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimise equipment performance (OEE)
• Maintain and service site equipment, utilities, and general mechanical systems
• Work collaboratively with production teams to ensure minimal disruption to operations
• Complete maintenance records and ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety standards
• Assist with basic electrical fault finding and repair where required

Experience / Qualifications - Mechanical Maintenance Technician

• Minimum Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
• Strong mechanical maintenance background within a manufacturing or production environment
• Experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
• Basic electrical fault‑finding ability (desirable, not essential)
• Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out efficient repairs
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, shift‑based environment
• A proactive, team‑oriented mindset with strong problem‑solving skills
