Job summary

Marshall Harmony Limited is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician in the heavy manufacturing sector. You’ll diagnose faults, strip machinery, read engineering drawings and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, with welding and machining where needed.

You’ll work 12-hour shifts on a 4-on, 4-off pattern, with safety as a priority. Time served via mechanical engineering apprenticeship or NVQ3, you’ll bring practical knowledge to keep production moving and problems from recurring.

Qualifications

• High level of mechanical repair skills in heavy industrial equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and repair machinery to restore production.
• Read drawings and manuals to dismantle and rebuild components.
• Work with hydraulic/pneumatic systems, welding and machining as needed.
• Ensure maintenance work follows LOTOTO and permit-to-work procedures.
• Contribute to root-cause analysis to prevent recurring failures.

Job description

If you're a Mechanical Maintenance Technician who likes proper mechanical engineering, this is probably going to be more your thing.

Big machinery. Real breakdowns.

Problems that need diagnosing, not just another part swapping out because that's what happened last time. You'll be working in a heavy manufacturing environment where, when something stops, people need you to know what you're looking at.

And that's the attraction

As Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you'll get to use the skills you spent years learning.

You'll strip machinery down, read engineering drawings, work through hydraulic and pneumatic systems, repair, rebuild, fit, weld and machine when needed.

Sometimes you'll know exactly what the problem is. Sometimes you won't. Those are probably the jobs you'll enjoy most. Because you're the Mechanical Maintenance Technician who wants to understand why something failed, particularly if it keeps happening.

There's planned preventative maintenance, of course, but this isn't a role where you'll spend every shift ticking your way through a maintenance sheet.

Production relies on the machinery around you.

When something goes wrong, you'll diagnose it, get it safely running again and, where you can, stop the same problem coming back.

You'll be rewarded with a salary of £37,000-£40,000, plus shift allowance.

You'll work 12-hour shifts on a 4-on, 4-off pattern - 2 days followed by 2 nights, alongside the wider Maintenance and Operations teams and reporting into the Maintenance Shift Supervisor.

For you, safety is second nature.

You'll be working around large process equipment and overhead cranes, following LOTOTO and permit-to-work procedures. You'll know getting production moving matters, but never at the expense of doing the job properly.

As Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you'll probably be time served, with a Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

More importantly, you'll already have put that knowledge to use in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Mechanical fitting needs to be one of your strengths.

You'll understand hydraulics and pneumatics, be comfortable reading mechanical and hydraulic drawings and have enough electrical knowledge to know where the mechanical problem ends.

Experience with welding, machining, lubrication, precision measurement and overhead cranes will all be useful too. There's a CMMS to keep updated, but nobody is hiring you because you're brilliant at filling in a computer system. They're hiring you because when a machine goes down, you can work out what's wrong with it.

And because you don't give up when the obvious answer turns out not to be the right one.

That's the Mechanical Maintenance Technician they're looking for.
