Position Purpose:
The RegionalMaintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) is responsible for themaintenance and reliability of mechanical systems and equipment acrossStericycle’s regional facilities. Working under the direction of theMaintenance Manager, the role ensures the effective delivery ofStericycle’s total preventative maintenance strategy. This includesplanned and reactive maintenance, upgrades, and the continuousimprovement of plant reliability. The role is integral to minimizingdowntime and supporting safe and efficient plant operations across theStericycle network.
Key activities include:
• Conductingfault diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance of all mechanical systemsand components.
• Supporting planned plant outages andupgrades.
• Maintaining records of maintenance activities viathe Maintenance Management System.
• Ensuring compliance withUK health and safety regulations and company standards.
•Collaborating with operations and engineering teams to enhance plantperformance.
Key Job Activities:
• Perform fault finding, troubleshooting, and repairson mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors,and boilers.
• Maintain hydraulic systems, including ramcylinders, seals, pipework, valves, filters, fluids, and pumps.
• Maintain compressed air systems, including compressors,pipework, seals, valves, and divertors.
• Conduct fabrication,repair, drilling, bolting, and welding on structural metalwork. Usepower tools such as drills, saws, and grinders.
• Maintainwater systems, including both low and high-pressure pipework, hot andcold water systems, spray lances, and solenoids.
• Performmaintenance of boiler systems, including high-pressure vessels, heatexchangers, economizers, and steam systems.
Planned andReactive Maintenance
• Execute planned preventative maintenance(PPM) schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
• Respondrapidly to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults and restoringsystems to operational functionality.
• Actively identifyopportunities to improve maintenance schedules and reduce unplanneddowntime.
Contractor and Project Management
• Overseecontractors performing maintenance or project work, ensuringcompliance with Stericycle standards and safety regulations.
•Issue permits to work and conduct risk assessments for contractor-ledactivities.
• Support plant improvement projects, including theinstallation, commissioning, and upgrade of mechanical equipment.
Technical Support and Documentation
• Assist operationalteams with technical expertise to resolve complex mechanical issues.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenanceactivities, fault reports, and asset history
• Monitor spareparts inventory and advise on stock requirements to supportmaintenance schedules.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
•Adhere to Stericycle’s health and safety policies, ensuring all tasksare conducted in line with UK legislation and company standards.
• Safely isolate mechanical equipment to enable maintenanceactivities, ensuring zero harm to personnel.
• Conduct anddocument risk assessments, implementing control measures to minimizerisks during maintenance activities.
Out of Hours Support
• Be available to provide emergency support outside of normalworking hours when required.
Experience(EMEAA):
Essential Qualifications
•Time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
•Relevant engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, ONC, or HNCin Mechanical Engineering.
• Recognized industry training inhydraulics, pneumatics, and steam systems (e.g., BOAS).
•Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within heavy processindustries (e.g., power generation, manufacturing, or similar).
• Welding certifications (e.g., TWI Coded Welding orequivalent).
Desirable Qualifications
• Evidence ofmaintaining high-risk pressure vessels in compliance with insurancestandards.
• Experience with air pollution control devices suchas baghouses, evaporative coolers, or dosing systems.
•Familiarity with incineration or other waste treatment methods,including knowledge of relevant legislation.
ExperienceRequirements
• Minimum of 2 years of post-apprenticeshipexperience in mechanical maintenance, including fault finding,repairs, and system upgrades.
• Strong understanding of health,safety, and environmental compliance in industrial settings.
•Experience managing contractors and supervising maintenance projects.
