Nexus Careers Group Ltd in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to maintain boiler and pressure systems on a world-leading science and research site. The role combines hands-on maintenance with permit to work responsibilities, acting as Mechanical Authorised Person, with a stable Monday to Friday schedule and a basic salary of £52,000 (negotiable).

Candidates should hold BOAS or Mechanical AP accreditation and a Level 3 Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications

• BOAS boiler operator accreditation or Mechanical AP/Steam AP required.
• Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Hands-on maintenance experience on boiler/steam/pressure systems in industrial or critical environments.
• Good understanding of permit to work systems and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant (AHUs, pumps, chillers, etc.).
• Operate and fault-find on boiler plant, steam and pressure systems.
• Act as Mechanical Authorised Person, issuing permits and managing isolations.
• Oversee contractors to ensure safe systems of work are followed.
• Complete maintenance records and support statutory inspections.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (BOAS / Mechanical AP)

Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire (site-based)

Salary: £52,000 (negotiable for the right candidate)

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00

About the Role

We're recruiting an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a leading global property and facilities management company on a long-standing account at a world-leading science and research site near Abingdon.

This is a hands-on role in the on-site engineering team, maintaining a wide range of mechanical plant, including boiler and pressure systems. Alongside your day-to-day maintenance work, you'll act as a Mechanical Authorised Person, issuing permits and managing isolations so that work on critical plant is carried out safely. It's an excellent opportunity to work on a technically interesting site with a stable Monday to Friday day pattern.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant, including AHUs, pumps, chillers, compressed air and heating systems
• Operating, maintaining and fault-finding on boiler plant, steam and pressure systems
• Acting as a Mechanical Authorised Person, issuing permits to work and managing mechanical isolations
• Overseeing contractors working on mechanical plant to make sure safe systems of work are followed
• Completing maintenance records, risk assessments and support for statutory inspections

Requirements

• BOAS boiler operator accreditation or Mechanical AP/Steam AP or equivalent (essential)
• Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Hands-on experience maintaining boiler, steam or pressure systems plant in an industrial, scientific or critical environment
• Good understanding of permit to work systems and safe systems of work
