Mechanical Engineer
Edinburgh
Shift Pattern: 2-3-2 (Pitman Pattern)
Nine Twenty is proud to be working with one of the UK’s leading food manufacturers to find a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to work at their Edinburgh site.
Responsibilities
- Perform proactive and reactive maintenance and repairs on plant equipment including liquid and powder transfer systems, mixers, ovens, conveyors, robotics, wrapping machines, pneumatics, hydraulics, and site services.
- Conduct planned maintenance (PPM), modifications, installations, and upgrades to plant machinery and site services.
- Apply and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice standards.
- Maintain and modify electrical or mechanical drawings as required.
- Maintain gas systems, including oven burner repairs and setup, if qualified.
- Work across mechanical and electrical trades as qualified.
- Improve site production processes and plant design to minimize downtime and enhance safety and quality.
- Repair, refurbish, and modify pipework and valves, including gas systems (if qualified), ingredient lines, pneumatics, water heating systems, and water jackets.
- Maintain and repair steam pressure vessels and pipework, including boilers, calorifiers, steam traps, and condensates.
- Ensure all work complies with high engineering, quality, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Complete all work using the CMMS (Pirana).
- Identify areas for improvement to reduce downtime, increase efficiency, and reduce energy consumption.
Requirements
- Time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering discipline (HNC preferred).
- IOSH Working Safely certification.
- Knowledge of planned maintenance systems (Shire).
- Experience in manufacturing, preferably in the food industry.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to undertake self-assessment and development.
- Ability to work consistently to high standards and prioritize tasks.
- Root cause analysis and fault-finding skills.
- Flexible skill set.
- Full knowledge and compliance with site Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.
