Working Pattern

Full time Working location: Bristol/Hybrid

Join our world-class Structural Systems Design team where you'll be at the forefront of engine development, bringing together mechanical sub-systems into optimised full engine systems. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge analytical tools including Whole Engine Mechanical Models (WEMM) and complex finite element analysis to define engine behaviour at product system level. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring our designs are robust, meet requirements and apply Design for Process Excellence principles across our iconic aerospace engines.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount. We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere. We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.

As part of our Defence business, you'll be contributing to the development of engines that power aircraft around the globe, working on cutting-edge technology that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in aerospace engineering.

We'll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.

This role offers exceptional opportunities for technical development in advanced structural analysis, with access to state-of-the-art modelling tools and the chance to work on complex engineering challenges from static analysis to extreme event scenarios like Fan Blade-Off conditions. You'll be supported in achieving Chartered Engineer status and have opportunities to influence design decisions at the highest level of our organisation.

What We Offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What You Will Be Doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Conduct advanced structural mechanical design and analysis using sophisticated tools ranging from hand calculations to complex design space exploration and optimisation
  • Lead and support mechanical experiments including test rig specifications, supervision of testing, and correlation of engine test data with analytical predictions
  • Develop and apply Whole Engine Mechanical Models (WEMM) to analyse static, dynamic (rotordynamics, vibration, balancing) and extreme event behaviour at product system level
  • Drive continuous improvement of tools, methods and processes while delivering against programme milestones within agreed cost, timescale and quality requirements

Who We're Looking For

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience) with strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and cross-discipline engineering concepts
  • Demonstrate ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters
  • Have knowledge and experience of product integrity/liability and certification frameworks
  • Possess excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Show membership of a relevant professional body (Chartered status preferred in the UK) and commitment to continuous professional development

We are an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
