Job summary

AFECO is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to maintain and service water and wastewater treatment assets across Midlands sites. You will perform preventive and breakdown maintenance, diagnose faults, and support installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment.

The role requires reading drawings and P&IDs and adherence to safety standards. Based at treatment works and regional sites, you will join a multi-disciplinary team, with opportunities for training and progression within a dynamic,

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical engineering qualification is essential.
• Experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Maintenance Technician.
• Industrial/utilities/process-plant environment experience.
• Confined space training (NC1/NC2) desirable.
• Water industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventive, and reactive mechanical maintenance on water treatment assets.
• Diagnose faults and carry out corrective actions to minimise downtime.
• Install, overhaul and commission mechanical equipment per specifications.
• Conduct pipework repairs (flanged, threaded, welded).
• Comply with site safety rules and permit-to-work procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using asset management systems.
• Support asset optimisation and equipment upgrades.
