Howden Turbo UK is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join the Peterborough manufacturing team. You will assemble, test and prepare complex rotating equipment including steam turbines, gas compressors and gearbox assemblies.

This hands-on role offers variety, technical challenge and opportunity to work on bespoke engineered solutions for customers. You will interpret engineering drawings, fit and align components, and support testing and preventative maintenance while ensuring quality and

Competenze

• Time-served Mechanical Fitter apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
• Experience working within a mechanical assembly, heavy engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience using hand tools, air tools and precision measuring equipment.
• Knowledge of rotating machinery and mechanical assembly techniques.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Mansioni

• Assemble steam turbines, gas compressors and gearbox systems to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Fit, align and install mechanical components, sub-assemblies and rotating equipment.
• Carry out shaft alignment, assembly of gears and gearboxes, and installation of linkage and control systems.
• Use measuring equipment and precision fitting techniques to achieve required tolerances.
• Support hydrostatic pressure testing and functional testing of completed equipment.
• Identify and resolve build and test issues, working closely with engineering, quality and manufacturing colleagues.
• Liaise with design, stores and other departments to ensure smooth project execution.
• Complete route cards, job documentation and time recording accurately.
• Prepare equipment for shipment, including protection, preservation, labelling and packing activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment and follow all health and safety procedures.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and support colleagues across the manufacturing team when required.
