Job summary

IWS M&E in Walsall, England, seeks a Mechanical Fitter to install, service and repair mechanical equipment across varied environments. You will support projects spanning plant and infrastructure maintenance, ensuring equipment reliability and safety compliance.

The role requires NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent, CSCS or similar site safety certification, and a driving licence. Travel to multiple sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Valid CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and translate schematic/technical drawings.
  • Experience in the utility sector is advantageous.
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel/stay away as required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, maintain and repair mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Support environmental and energy management, plant and infrastructure maintenance, and emergency response projects.
  • Read drawings and specifications to ensure accurate installation.
  • Contribute to planned shutdowns and project delivery across multiple sites.
  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental and quality standards; promote safe working practices.

IWS M&E mitigates and manages risk from mechanical and electrical failures for a wide range of customers in the public and private sectors throughout the UK.

An established Principle Contractor and Designer within the MEICA Process sector, IWS M&E’s specialisms include pump diagnostics and refurbishment, turn-key project management, chemical dosing and control, and plant and infrastructure maintenance with emergency response.

The Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Fitter to join our team of Mechanical Supervisors and Assistants. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects for some of our largest customers, contributing to the delivery of high-quality mechanical maintenance and engineering solutions.

In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems across a range of environments. You will support projects spanning environmental and energy management, plant and infrastructure maintenance, and emergency response operations, ensuring equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and adherence to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical installation of pumps, pipework, valves and associated equipment.
  • Perform both preventative and reactive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and site documentation to support accurate installation and maintenance activities.
  • Support planned shutdowns, maintenance outages, and project delivery programmes across multiple sites.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards while promoting a safe working culture.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and site teams to deliver work safely, efficiently, and within project timescales.
What You'll Need
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Valid CSCS Card or other recognised site safety certification preferred
  • Have the ability to read and translate schematic and technical drawings.
  • Experience of working in the utility sector would be an advantage.
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter within industrial, manufacturing, construction, or engineering environments.
  • A full driving licence and there will be an element of working away with the role as and when required.
