The Mechanical Fitter will possess a comprehensive range of engineering knowledge along with suitable practical experience for troubleshooting and installation work. The ideal candidate will have CompEx Mechanical qualifications and experience working in hazardous areas. Knowledge of top-tier CoMAH regulations, including environmental, health, and safety legislative requirements, is essential.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all duties comply with statutory legal requirements and company policies on quality, health & safety, and environment.
- Promoting a positive health and safety culture through good housekeeping, PPE use, reporting near misses, and isolating unsafe situations.
- Completing necessary documentation and routine checks per policies and procedures.
- Managing workload for safe, standardized, and efficient maintenance of plant and equipment, following CMMS instructions and statutory requirements.
- Performing and overseeing installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment to high standards within deadlines.
- Collaborating with engineering supervisors to complete CMMS jobs and project plans, ensuring timely completion.
- Contributing to capital project scoping, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Identifying repairs, upgrades, and routine maintenance to maximize plant availability and efficiency.
- Reporting equipment defects and faults, ensuring safety and communication of issues.
- Following permit to work procedures, including risk assessments and controls.
- Supporting the department with additional tasks like electrical work and forklift operation as per competencies.
- Participating in hazard assessments, risk reviews, and incident investigations.
- Adhering to change management procedures, ensuring no impact on operations.
- Driving continuous improvement in plant operation and maintenance.
- Providing basic training to colleagues as needed.
- Ensuring proper waste disposal in line with legislation and maintaining housekeeping standards.
- Assisting the engineering supervisor and deputizing as required.
Role
- Ensuring tasks are performed following health, safety, and environmental standards, with proper reporting.
- Following risk assessments and completing CMMS tasks efficiently and safely.
- Ensuring equipment is correctly assembled, commissioned, and returned to service safely.
- Recording breakdown details to improve reliability and reduce costs.
- Issuing and updating routine tasks via CMMS, following instructions carefully.
- Highlighting hazards and controls within risk assessments and permits.
- Conducting job walk-throughs to ensure safety and access.
- Managing consumables and spares to prevent processing interruptions.
- Providing daily updates to the engineering supervisor on activities and issues.
- Planning and managing maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
- Following waste segregation and disposal procedures.
- Maintaining repair and installation standards per legislation and best practices.
- Working flexibly, including out-of-hours and weekend shifts, as needed.
- Undertaking training to stay updated on technologies and safety requirements.
- Supporting site incident and emergency response efforts.
