Job summary

Odin Recruitment Group is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter in Scunthorpe. The role involves assembling complex units from engineering drawings, measuring to tight tolerances, and performing drilling, tapping, and milling tasks in a hands-on workshop environment.

You will read and interpret drawings, set up components, and ensure quality while supporting occasional on-site installations and travel as required.

Qualifications

• Time served Mechanical Engineering qualification (Level 3 or equivalent).
• Experience reading engineering drawings with tolerances.
• Hands-on fitting: drilling, tapping, lathes and milling.
• Knowledge of measuring equipment and fitting processes.
• Strong attention to detail and health & safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and build mechanical components and units from drawings.
• Align parts to tight tolerances and measure accurately.
• Modify components based on measurements and specifications.
• Carrying out mechanical fitting tasks including drilling and tapping.
• Operate overhead cranes and lifting equipment safely.
• Support customer installations, including occasional travel.

Job description

Mechanical Fitter - Scunthorpe

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Monday to Thursday: 07:45 to 16:30

Friday: 07:45 to 13:15 (early finish)

The Company

We are recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join a well-established engineering business based in Scunthorpe. This is a multi national organisation with a strong reputation, modern equipment, and a genuinely supportive working environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will be part of a skilled engineering team responsible for the assembly, disassembly and testing of bespoke machinery.

This is a hands‑on role involving the service and retrofit of complex mechanical systems from engineering drawings, with occasional involvement in on site installations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble and build mechanical components and complex units from engineering drawings
• Align materials and fit parts to tight tolerances
• Select and modify components based on measurements and specifications
• Carry out mechanical fitting work including drilling, tapping and adjustments
• Operate overhead cranes and lifting equipment safely
• Support installations on customer sites when required, including occasional travel

About You

• Time served Mechanical Engineering qualification, Level 3 or equivalent
• Strong background in mechanical fitting, not just basic assembly
• Experience working with tolerances, measurements and component adjustments
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Hands on bench experience including drilling, tapping, lathes and milling
• Knowledge of measuring equipment and fitting processes
• Strong attention to detail and quality standards
• Team player with a proactive approach
• Good understanding of health and safety practices

Desirable

• Experience with gearboxes
• Flexibility to support occasional installations, including potential national travel
