Job summary

Metalis Recruitment Group is partnering with a leading specialist engineering business in Chesterfield to recruit an experienced Mechanical Assembly Fitter. This hands-on role involves assembling bespoke machinery and lifting equipment across sub-assemblies and full builds.

You will read and interpret drawings, work with stainless and mild steel, use various hand tools, and perform quality checks to meet stringent standards. The role offers a 12-week temp-to-perm path and daily days.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Mechanical Assembly Fitter

Days - 12-Week Temp to Perm

Metalis are currently working in partnership with a leading specialist engineering business who are looking for an experienced Mechanical Assembly Fitter to join their Production team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical assembly and fitting of bespoke machinery and lifting equipment, working across both sub-assemblies and main builds. This is a hands‑on fitting role where you will need to understand engineering principles and fitting techniques rather than simply following assembly instructions.

The Role:

• * Mechanical assembly and fitting of bespoke machinery and lifting equipment.
• * Working on both sub-assemblies and complete/main builds.
• * Using a range of hand tools and workshop equipment.
• * Reading and interpreting engineering and assembly drawings.
• * Working with stainless steel, mild steel and other engineering components.
• * Checking parts and assemblies to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards.
• * Carrying out quality checks throughout the build process.
• * Identifying and reporting any quality issues or stock shortages.
• * Working safely and maintaining high standards of housekeeping.
• * Supporting with occasional site installations, servicing and other engineering activities when required.

The Candidate:

• * Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Assembly Fitter or similar.
• * Strong hands‑on mechanical fitting and assembly skills.
• * Confident using a range of hand tools.
• * Able to read and interpret engineering and assembly drawings.
• * A genuine understanding of mechanical fitting techniques rather than purely following assembly instructions.
• * Experience working with stainless steel and mild steel.
• * Comfortable working on sub-assemblies through to complete bespoke machinery builds.
• * Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.
• * Good understanding of health & safety within an engineering environment.
• * A recognised mechanical engineering qualification or time‑served apprenticeship would be advantageous.
