Job summary

Consult2Recruit is seeking a Mechanical Fitter for a workshop-based role focused on building, refurbishing, and assembling refuse collection vehicles and related equipment. You will contribute to the production process, ensuring high-quality builds ready for delivery.

The ideal candidate has solid experience in mechanical fitting within a production or heavy engineering environment, with strong ability to read drawings and work with hydraulic systems.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Mechanical Fitter in a production, workshop, or heavy engineering environment.
• Strong mechanical assembly and fitting skills.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and/or vehicle systems (HGV, plant, or similar).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of the production team building and refurbishing refuse collection vehicles.
• Assemble and fit mechanical components including bin lifts, compactors, and body systems.
• Carry out strip-downs, inspections, and rebuilds of vehicle components.
• Install and work on hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies.
• Follow engineering drawings and specifications to complete builds.
• Support production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Mechanical Fitter

Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 + Overtime

Hours: 7:00am – 4:30pm (45 hours per week)

Overtime: Paid at time and a half

The Opportunity

We are supporting a growing and well‑established specialist in the maintenance and refurbishment of municipal and waste collection vehicles. Due to continued expansion, they are looking to recruit a Mechanical Fitter to join their production team. This is a hands‑on, workshop‑based role focused on the build, refurbishment, and assembly of refuse collection vehicles and associated equipment. You will play a key part in the production process, ensuring vehicles are completed to a high standard and ready for delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Work as part of the production team building and refurbishing refuse collection vehicles
• Assemble and fit mechanical components including bin lifts, compactors, and body systems
• Carry out strip‑downs, inspections, and rebuilds of vehicle components
• Install and work on hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies
• Follow engineering drawings and specifications to complete builds
• Support production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards
