Are you an experienced mechanical engineer looking for a role that offers variety, independence, and the opportunity to make a real impact?

We're seeking a Field Service Engineer Mechanical to support operations across Stockport and Leigh. This is a permanent, field-based position where you'll be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving a wide range of mechanical assets that are critical to operational performance.

You'll begin each day from home before travelling to sites across the region in a company-provided van, managing your own schedule and responding to both planned and reactive maintenance requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands‑on engineering, problem‑solving, and working across our Stockport and Leigh sites.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, diagnose mechanical faults, and implement effective long‑term solutions.
  • Install, repair, and commission equipment including pumps, valves, pipework, actuators, mixers, and flow meters, while supporting asset upgrades and maintenance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and asset information using company systems to support operational compliance and performance.
  • Work closely with operational teams, contractors, and engineering colleagues to deliver maintenance activities, capital projects, refurbishments, and equipment replacement programmes.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety standards, company procedures, and engineering best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, performance, and maintenance strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Effectively plan and manage your workload across sites in Stockport and Leigh, ensuring a timely and professional response to operational needs.
  • Work efficiently to deliver value while meeting operational, maintenance, and business objectives.
What You’ll Bring
  • Time-served apprenticeship, or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Practical experience in mechanical maintenance within industrial, utilities, manufacturing, or process environments, with strong fault‑finding and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and wider teams.
  • A proactive, flexible approach with the willingness to work across a range of environments, including confined spaces where required.
Why This Role?

This role offers the freedom and autonomy of a field-based position while providing the support of an experienced engineering team. You'll enjoy a varied workload, exposure to a broad range of assets, and the chance to play a key role in delivering essential services across the North West.

With a home-based start, company van, and opportunities to develop your technical expertise, this is a rewarding position for an engineer who takes pride in delivering high‑quality work and making a difference every day.

  • 26 days annual leave, increasing to 30 days with service, plus bank holidays.
  • Up to 14% employer pension contribution.
  • Life assurance cover.
  • Performance‑related bonus of up to 7.5%.
  • Company‑funded healthcare plan.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.
  • Access to retail, lifestyle, and gym discounts through MORE Choices.
  • Financial wellbeing tools, including Salary Finance and Wealth at Work.
  • Electric vehicle scheme.
  • Enhanced parental leave.

If you're a mechanically skilled engineer who enjoys working independently, solving problems, and keeping essential assets operating at their best, we'd love to hear from you.
