Job summary

United Utilities is seeking Field Service Engineers to perform hands-on maintenance and replacement tasks across pumps, mixers, valves and related equipment at Stockport wastewater site. The role involves working independently and in teams, with opportunities to contribute to capital and operational projects, and to operate in confined spaces.

Applicants should have an NVQ level 3 or time-served apprenticeship, a full UK driving license, and industry experience.

Responsibilities

• To implement an efficient Mechanical maintenance and installation service.
• To analyse faults, rectify and ensure correct operation of Mechanical systems-based equipment.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
• To ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations and internal company policies.
• To maintain required financial control of a pre-defined budget.
• To provide reliable, accurate and complete asset performance and repair information for entry into corporate systems.
• To analyse and recommend solutions to recurring maintenance problems.

The Role

We’re looking for Field Service Engineers who can help us drive efficiency and reduce costs across our operations. In this role, you’ll take on hands‑on tasks such as like‑for‑like replacements of pumps, mixers, valves, flow meters, pipework, and electrical actuators, as well as tank repairs and asset decommissioning.

We’re looking for Field Service Engineers who can help us drive efficiency and reduce costs across our operations. In this role, you’ll take on hands‑on tasks such as like‑for‑like replacements of pumps, mixers, valves, flow meters, pipework, and electrical actuators, as well as tank repairs and asset decommissioning.
This is a hands‑on, multi‑skilled role that demands flexibility, the ability to work independently, and readiness to operate in confined spaces. You’ll also contribute to both capital and operational projects, ensuring mechanical assets are designed, installed, and maintained to meet performance and reliability standards. Participation in an out‑of‑hours standby rota is part of the role.

If you’re bringing one core skill to us (Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation) you’ll start on a salary of £38,462, but if you’ve got both disciplines, you’ll earn £44,320.

Role Accountabilities

Essential Skills & Experience

• You must be a time served apprentice or equivalent, supported with academic qualifications to a minimum of NVQ level 3.
• A full UK driving license is required for the role
• Industry experience.
• The ability to work in a team but also alone, and sometimes in confined spaces.
• Able and willing to diversify into specialised areas of maintenance, as required, such as chlorine gas systems.
• Diagnostic, organisational, planning, communication and computer skills
