Job summary

Tata Steel UK is seeking a Technical Maintenance Engineer to lead maintenance craft teams at Trostre (SA14) and coordinate contractors to support manufacturing operations. The role emphasizes equipment reliability, safety, and continuous improvement across maintenance planning and fault diagnosis.

The ideal candidate will have practical engineering experience, supervisory capability, and a strong commitment to health and safety in a manufacturing/industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering craft teams and contractors to deliver safe and efficient maintenance activities.
• Develop and coordinate planned preventative maintenance schedules.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, statutory, and process safety requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve complex equipment and process faults to minimise downtime.
• Allocate engineering resources, materials, and contract labour to meet operational needs.
• Monitor maintenance performance, quality standards, and budget expenditure.
• Drive continuous improvement of engineering practices, equipment, and processes.
• Support manufacturing improvement projects and works development plans.
• Develop and deliver training to engineering and operational teams.
• Manage equipment performance, including spare parts and material availability.
• Conduct risk assessments and support Management of Change processes.

What you will do:

The role focuses on ensuring equipment reliability, safety, compliance, and performance through effective maintenance planning, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement.

What you will need:

You’ll have strong practical engineering knowledge backed by several years of relevant experience in a maintenance or manufacturing environment. Whether you're a qualified craftsperson or graduate engineer, you'll be confident leading teams and ensuring engineering work is completed safely, effectively, and to a high standard.

Essential Requirements

• Sound practical engineering knowledge with relevant industry experience.
• Qualified craftsperson (typically HNC level) or degree-qualified engineer.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy engineering environment.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate engineering personnel and contractors.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and safe systems of work.
• Proven ability to lead the safe execution of engineering maintenance and repair activities.
• Effective problem-solving and communication skills.
