Job summary

Highfield Professional Solutions Ltd is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12-month contract in Chorley. The role covers development from concept to detailed design within a highly regulated environment.

You will create 3D models, drawings and technical files, perform design risk assessments and support CE/UKCA conformity. A degree in engineering and experience in regulated sectors are essential; prior nuclear/defence exposure is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Significant mechanical design engineering experience within a complex engineering environment, ideally nuclear, defence or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience with gloveboxes and associated mechanical equipment.
• Strong knowledge of the Machinery Directive, CE Marking / UKCA requirements and technical file preparation.
• Experience applying BS 8888 to engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience in design verification, validation, risk assessments and engineering substantiation.
• A relevant engineering degree (Level 6 or equivalent); professional registration desirable.
• Strong understanding of configuration control, design assurance and engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Produce design risk assessments, support engineering calculations and work closely with stress engineers to substantiate designs.
• Develop technical files and support CE Marking / UKCA conformity assessments.

• Participate in design reviews, verification and validation activities, ensuring quality and compliance throughout the design lifecycle.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and support designs through manufacture, assembly, testing and commissioning.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Chorley (4-day working week)

Rate: Up to 57 per hour, Outside IR35

Contract: 12 months

Start: ASAP

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12-month contract supporting engineering design activities within a highly regulated engineering environment. This role will involve developing and substantiating mechanical design solutions from concept through to detailed design, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and nuclear safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
