Job summary

Dornan is inviting applications for its Mechanical Engineering Internship Programme 2027. Interns will work on live projects across the UK, Ireland and Mainland Europe, gaining exposure to chilled water systems, ventilation, BMS, refrigeration, sprinkler systems and more.

Internships run 6–12 months, typically during the third year of study. You will assist engineers, prepare reports, schedules and tender documentation, and develop delivery programs using MS Project.

Qualifications

• Working towards a Mechanical or Building Services Engineering degree.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of reports and front-end studies including capital cost estimates, project schedules, material take-offs and tender schedules.
• Assist with preparation of technical and contract documentation for issue and analysing tenders.
• Prepare and update delivery schedules to control deliveries.
• Clarify queries with the Design team via the RFI system.
• Prepare programmes using MS Project.
• Monitor progress against the programme and issue progress reports.
• Produce look-ahead programmes to assist production.
• Prepare method statements and risk assessments with the construction team.
• Maintain register of contract variations.
• Prepare test packs for recording completion of systems.
• Carry out Quality Control through inspections and snagging.
• Document control, recording & transmitting information.
• Assist projects with financial control of contracts during construction.

Job description

We are now inviting applications for our Mechanical Engineering Internship Programme 2027.

Successful candidates will be placed on projects in Ireland, the UK and Mainland Europe.

The Dornan Mechanical Engineering Internship Programme allows participants the opportunity to work on live projects with experienced engineers. You will get exposure to chilled water systems, ventilation, BMS, refrigeration, sprinkler systems and many more.

Internships range from 6-12 months in duration and are usually completed in the third year of study.

Your day to day will include:

• Assisting with the preparation of reports and front-end studies including capital cost estimates, project schedules, material take off's and out to tender schedules.
• Assist with the preparation of technical and contract documentation for issue and analysing returned tenders.
• Prepare and update the delivery schedule to control deliveries
• Seek to clarify queries with the Design team through the request for information (RFI) system
• Prepare programs using MS project.
• Monitor progress against the program and issue progress reports.
• Produce look ahead programs to assist production.
• Prepare method statements and risk assessments (with construction team) for production activities
• Maintain a register of contract variations.
• Prepare test packs for recording the completion of systems.
• Carry out Quality Control through inspections and snagging
• Carry out document control, recording & transmitting information
• Assisting projects with financial control of contracts during construction stage.
• Liaise and co-ordinate with client's other members of the design team and contractors on technical issues.

What we are looking for:

• Working towards a Mechanical or Building Services Engineering Degree
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
