New Opportunity - Mechanical Engineer (Piping)

Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Piping) or Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Derbyshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide variety of technically challenging projects, taking concepts from design through to delivery while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and supporting customers around the world.
As the new Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Design and develop piping layouts and mechanical systems for industrial and energy-related projects
- Produce and review engineering calculations, technical drawings, and supporting documentationCarry out pipe stress and flexibility analysis to ensure safe and compliant designs
- Interpret customer specifications, P&IDs, and engineering documentation to develop practical engineering solutions
- Work closely with CAD and design teams to produce high-quality 3D models and manufacturing drawings
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and client requirements
- Provide technical support to internal teams, customers, and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle Participate in design reviews and contribute technical expertise across multiple projects
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of engineering best practices
- Review engineering work completed by colleagues where appropriate
Main Requirements for This Role
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline
- Minimum of 3 years' mechanical design experience (6+ years for Senior level)
- Experience in piping design, piping layout, and/or pipe stress analysis within an industrial or process environment
- Working knowledge of recognised piping design standards such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, EN 13480, or PED
- Experience using piping design or stress analysis software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, or CAESAR II
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Confident interpreting technical specifications and engineering drawings
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Mathcad, or similar engineering calculation software
- Fluent English (minimum B2 level)
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required
Desirable Experience
- Experience across both piping layout and pipe stress analysis
- Knowledge of fabricated components and manufacturing method
- Experience using FEA software
- Familiarity with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or related equipmen
- Experience using AutoCAD, Navisworks, PV Elite, or NozzlePRO
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status or membership of a recognised engineering institution

About this role:
- Full‑time, permanent position
- Salary for this role is £45,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on experience
- Based in Ripley, Derbyshire
- Mechanical Engineer and Senior Mechanical Engineer opportunities available
- Some flexibility to work additional hours when required to support project delivery
- Overseas travel may be required
