Job summary

Leonardo is hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Yeovil to design the NIGHTSHADE modular secure infrastructure. You will contribute to structural and mechanical design, support assessments, and collaborate with manufacturing and other engineering teams.

The role emphasizes systems engineering, documentation, and evidence-based decision making within a defence-focused environment. Hybrid working may be available.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in mechanical/structural/mechatronic engineering.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics and design.
• Ability to produce technical drawings and calculations.
• Experience in structural assessment and mechanical design.
• Knowledge of systems engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Design all mechanical aspects of NIGHTSHADE including containerised infrastructure.
• Support structural assessments to meet performance and safety requirements.
• Develop walling, HVAC integration, and supporting infrastructure.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation and evidence.
• Work with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate components.
• Manage requirements traceability and verification activities.
