Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join its growing building services design team in London. You will work on a diverse portfolio across commercial, residential, retail, education, and mixed-use developments.

The role requires a degree in mechanical/building services engineering, about 3–5 years of consultancy experience, and hands-on use of IESVE for energy modelling, thermal simulations, and energy efficiency design.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• 3–5 years’ experience in a building services consultancy.
• Proven design experience for mechanical building services (HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation).
• Hands-on experience using IESVE for energy modelling and thermal simulations is essential.
• Experience with building energy modelling, thermal analyses and performance assessments.
• Strong knowledge of sustainable design and low-carbon engineering solutions.
• Ability to perform mechanical calculations and produce high-quality documentation.
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical building services designs across commercial, residential, retail and educational sectors.
• Develop mechanical design strategies, specifications, and technical reports.
• Design and coordinate HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems.
• Carry out heating/cooling calculations, ventilation requirements, and equipment sizing.
• Use IESVE to undertake energy modelling, thermal analysis, overheating assessments, and daylight studies.
• Support low-carbon and energy-efficient design solutions.
• Produce and review technical drawings, schematics and documentation.
• Undertake site surveys and inspections; support construction-stage activities.
• Ensure designs comply with UK regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry standards.
